In a discussion on why Heinz has such high market share for ketchup in the Pittsburgh area, one commenter posts, "It's just better ketchup. Their other products may be closer in quality to the competition, but for Ketchup nobody compares. When you go to a restaurant and they have a different kind, it feels you are eating at some cheap cafeteria."

This is really telling, but probably not the in the way Matt intended.

Heinz doesn't make better ketchup. Heinz makes better Heinz ketchup. There's a huge difference.

¿Ah? ¿Ups? Pero hay otro Ketchup que no sea HEINZ? (me chivan que uno vio una vez uno que ponía Prima...y que en Lidl hay algo parecido a Ketchup...). Si , haberlos , haylos, como las meigas. ¿en tu Top-of-Mind?

Una explicación racional-psicológico-emocional a (de otra forma inexplicables) Brand-o-filias ... que de otra forma jamás pasarían el reto de una cata ciega;(el reto de Pepsi).

Ketchup, Mostaza, Mayonesa, Leche, Café, Chocolates, servicio financieros, agua mineral... son comodities... virtualmente indiferenciados, que satisfacen la misma necesidad.

¿diferenciación por producto? mínima.

¿diferenciación por precio? marginal ... por marketing -Promoción & distribución- Notable (potencialmente).

¿por branding? ... ABISMAL. Y si no preguntáselo a tu mamá.

O a los de Starbucks & Nespresso sobr como reinventar un comodity como le café. pero eso en el siguiente post. Whenever.
